By being psuedo-parents, Jeff and I have learned some secret weapons for entertaining kids that we will most certainly use when we have our very own tot ‘n tow. Balloons, crayons, play-doh, and cardboard boxes being the basic ones, but we have now discovered the magic of bubble wrap.
Seriously….bubble wrap = fun for HOURS.
I am not talking about a small section that comes when you order a breadmaker, I am talking about the large rolls that you can buy at packaging or office supply stores. Huge rolls of bubble wrap begging to be popped by little feet!
The secret is to store a spare roll in the garage, utility closet or if you are a New Yorker, stuffed in any nook you can find in your closet-like apartment. If you are traveling and have a massive case of jetlag, while your child has devilish endless energy, you might as well ask the hotel concierge or head to the store and locate this prized material. On rainy days, during a playdate, or on a lazy Saturday, unroll and cut sheets of this magical noisemaker and tape it to the floor, then watch the magic begin as an infectious smile spreads across your child’s flushed cheeks.
It may sound crazy, but believe me…this is a secret weapon for those “I’m bored, mom” moments.
